Meet João Vicente (@joaovicentee), one of our talented Senior Graphic Designers! When João’s not exploring the beaches of Portugal, he’s designing beautiful graphics and animations for our clients. João even designed the Aimtal logo!

Get to know Joao in this Q+A:

Where were you born, and where do you live now?

I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil but recently moved to Lisbon, Portugal.

What are you currently binge-watching?

I’ve been watching ZeroZeroZero, The Mandalorian, and Parks & Recreations lately, but I always end up getting back to The Office.

What are your favorite ways to spend your free time outside of work?

I love riding my bicycle and discovering the city, and most of the time I just set a direction without any specific destination in mind, that way I’m free to stop whenever I please. Surprisingly, most of my favorite discoveries were made when I was actually not looking for any place in particular.

What are your goals for 2021?

I have quite a few! I would like to get really experienced in coding, photography (and astrophotography!), and continue my research on new design methodologies and semiotics.

I would also love to experience the Northern Lights in the Arctic region, the Giant Waves of Nazaré here in Portugal, go on an expedition to the Pyrenees Mountains or the Alps, and attend Oktoberfest in Germany (because why not? That sounds reasonable).

Name one marketing mistake many brands make but can easily be avoided:

Not being honest to their customers and thinking that good marketing and good design can be used to mask dysfunctional services or products.

What is one thing you believe every marketer should know?

Semiotics!

You are hosting a dinner party and get to invite 3 famous people (dead or alive), who do you choose?

David Bowie, Douglas Adams, and Carl Sagan. And I would just sit there and listen.

If you had to pick one artist/song to narrate your life from this point on, what would it be?

Modest Mouse — The World At Large

What is your #1 piece of advice for fellow designers?

Never underestimate white space. Your layout needs to breathe.

If you could choose to be an animal, which one would you choose?

Easy. I would love to be either Timber or Kobe because they both have the best life ever.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I always wanted to be a teacher, and actually studied Geography for a brief period of time before deciding to dedicate my career to graphic design.

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?

Curious, meticulous, witty.

How do you take your coffee?

Black and no sugar.

What’s your favorite place that you’ve traveled to? Which destinations are at the top of your travel list?

Mendoza in Argentina, and the first time I ever stepped foot in the Andes.

Name a quote that you live by:

“And following our will and wind, we may just go where no one’s been.”
