The Aimtal Awards: The Best Advertising Videos of 2018
They Made Us Laugh, They Made Us Cry
By: Randi Richards | January 31, 2019
Without a doubt, 2018 was a year full of digital advances especially in the social media–serving as an ultimate paradise for advertisers across the globe. When asking our team to pick their favorite marketing campaigns of 2018, they didn’t know where to begin.
The year was filled with heavy hitters in the traditional and digital advertising spaces. Here’s our top picks of the best advertising campaigns of 2018.
Google Pixel 3: “Top Shot”
Google created a real winner this year, showcasing the awkwardly hilarious moments that happen when trying to take selfies and videos with a smartphone. They knocked it out of the park by displaying real moments that resonated with their customers.
The idea behind the ad was that Google Pixel picks the best shot…no blinking, no fidgeting, no awkward moments–well, kinda. Take a look for yourself.
MGM Resorts: “Universal Love”
Any ad supporting social change in a positive way gets an A+ in our book. This ad takes a stand for the LGBTQ community in its release of the UNIVERSAL LOVE album. A-list talent, like Bob Dylan, Ke$ha, and St. Vincent, joined the campaign in order to celebrate the power of love.
“It would have been easy to do this project pro-bono with a small budget and no-name musicians. But they went all in with a massive client and musicians,” says Creative Director, Frank Cartagena.
Apple: “Share Your Gifts”
Agency: TBWAMedia Arts Lab
Okay, Apple. Way to move us to tears with your holiday ads, again. This adorable animation tells the story of a creative young woman who is diligently working on a project she’s too shy to show to the world… until her best friend (yes, it’s a dog) decides to give her a little nudge.
This video is a different approach to Apple’s typical ads that feature real people, but we love the storytelling of the animated spot. Be prepared to loop this video for hours.
Amazon: “Alexa Loses Her Voice”
Agency: Lucky Generals
Starring a star-studded cast, Gordon Ramsay, Rebel Wilson, Cardi B, and Sir Anthony Hopkins try desperately to replace Alexa’s voice when she loses it to a cold. The goal behind this video series campaign is to prove that nobody can communicate better than Alexa. Although, we wouldn’t mind Cardi B replacing her around the home office.
